Starting a New YIG Chapter

Local Chapters are formed through YMCAs, schools, churches, or other youth affiliated programs.

Chapters must have an adult advisor who meets the volunteer criteria of the local YMCA branch as well as any regulations set forth by the local school district. Each Chapter should also have a strong youth leadership structure.

Chapters are classified as either Y-based (organized directly through the local YMCA branch) or as Y-affiliated (organized in the local high school, etc., and affiliated with the local YMCA branch). These Chapters are then organized into Delegations (determined by YMCA affiliation) and Districts based on geographic regions.
