Jr. Youth In Government
In 2005, the Youth In Government experience was extended to students in the 7th and 8th grades.
Much like their high school counterparts, Jr. YIG's middle school delegates form local chapters affiliated with their local YMCA branch.
However, high school students act in the role of mentor and student advisor, teaching these future YIG rockstars all that they need to know! This unique setup makes our Jr. YIG program the ultimate service-learning project.
Jr. YIG chapters are currently set-up at a few YMCAs across the state. These chapters may be a part of a Sr. YIG chapter or exist on their own. Please contact the State Office if you are interested in forming a Jr. YIG Chapter.
Newly formed Jr. YIG chapters may request in the fall a limited number of Page positions at the Sr. State Assembly to help establish their Chapter.*
Participants of Jr. YIG will be afforded a few additional opportunities that their High School counterparts will not have access to:
Participating in Jr. Youth In Government is an excellent way to grow a base for a high school chapter!!
*Positions in Page Program at the annual High School State Assembly are limited and will be assigned via the State Office.
